Hi y'all! I'm Mackenzie and, no, I'm not Southern. I've just said the word "y'all" for as long as I can remember! Over the past five years I have taught English at both the high school and collegiate levels. Currently, I am finishing up my M.A. in Linguistics while teaching
Composition and Rhetoric as a Graduate Assistant.
BEST. JOB. EVER.
My blog is focused mostly on educational theory and pedagogy. I will often times write about my experiences with teaching and reflections of what I have learned. I have a passion for my students who I want to advocate for and a passion for my content which I want to guard. It's quite the dichotomy, like Peter Elbow says. But, it's this mixture of passions that
makes me the teacher that I am.
Besides teaching, I enjoy running. I wouldn't exactly say that I am a runner. BUT I enjoy running. I like to run trails and lakeside. My favorite race has to be the Hot Chocolate 5K by far!
WILL. RUN. FOR. CHOCOLATE.
I'll be running the Chicago Hot Chocolate this coming November 2014, so if you follow me on Instagram (@mackerby) let me know! I'd love to meet up!
Aside from running, I have a sweet baby girl puppy. Her name is Chloe Sugarfoot. She goes by Chloebear, Boogie, Boogenstein, Biggie Smalls, and many other rappers' names. Pretty much any name that comes out of my mouth. I also have a cat named Faloola Delores who goes by Foo Foo or Tub-a-Lard. No joke, the only time she will sit by me is if I call her Tub-a-Lard.
I have become a bit of an iPhone photographer over the past few years. I love playing with filters and overlays. Hey! I always have my iPhone on me. Might as well capture my life as it happens around me :)
And I'm a bit of an adventurer. A local adventurer that is. I like to try new things like kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, meetups, etc. My newest
soon-to-be adventure is going to be rock climbing.
Just trying to find a time when I can go do it!
My interests are indeed varied and I love to write about them. I have a passion for writing and hope that I can pass on what I have learned in my career and in my life to others. So, stick around and browse my posts. Let me know if you have any ideas for future posts. You're suggestions are always welcome!
